Salted Chocolate Chip Cookies

As many of you have read over the last week or two, I have been craving some salted Chocolate Chip cookies. I finally got around to making them. I love these because they are such a deliciously addicting treat. This is not an original creation and I use this recipe for Salted Chocolate Chip Cookies from David Lebovitz. Over the last year I have altered the ingredients a bit to fit our eating habits and regular pantry stock.

What you’ll need:

½ stick unsalted butter, room temperature

¾ t. fine sea salt

½ cup white sugar

2/3 cup brown sugar

1 egg, room temperature

1 cap full vanilla extract

2/3 cup all-purpose flour

2/3 cup Whole wheat flour

½ t. baking soda

½ t. salt

1 cup chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

The process:

Mix the sugars, butter, and ¾ t. salt in a stand mixer. Once smooth, add in the egg and vanilla.

In another bowl, mix together flours, salt, and baking soda.

Add to the sugar mixture in the stand mixer and combine through. Add the chocolate and nuts until combined through.

Chill the dough for at least one hour in the refrigerator. Form into small balls and place a dozen on a baking sheet.

Bake in an oven preheated to 350 for 8-10 minutes. Let cool on the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to continue cooling.

Results: I love these cookies. The salty sweetness is so addicting. I have made these with and without nuts and both ways are tasty. I have also made these cookies with only all-purpose flour, which also worked well. When you use whole wheat flour, it is more difficult to determine the doneness of your cookies since they are already darker. No matter how I have changed this recipe, these cookies have always been delicious. Now that it is holiday season I might be able to justify making these again sometime soon!
