Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Part of living simply is making a conscious effort to slow down and appreciate the simple things in life. Today was a snowy day filled with holiday crafting and peppermint hot chocolate. I can think of no better time to share some of the simple things I enjoy along with my favorite hot chocolate recipe.

The simple things I enjoy:

being the first to walk in freshly fallen snow.

waking up, pressing coffee, and reading.

seeing my dogs face covered in snow.

playing cribbage with my husband.

sipping hot chocolate around a table of friends.

What you’ll need for hot chocolate:

4 cups milk

1/3 cup baking cocoa

2/3 cup powdered sugar

Heavy pinch of cayenne

Miniature marshmallows

Miniature candy canes

Peppermint schnapps (optional)

The process:

Warm the milk in a heavy bottomed pot on the stove top. As the milk warms, add the cocoa, sugar, and cayenne. Whisk together until mixed through and warm.

Pour into individual cups, top with marshmallows and candy canes.

Results: This makes for the perfect snowy day drink for a day full of holiday crafting with friends!
