Laundry is one of the places in our home that used to be plagued with excess chemicals. Between laundry detergent, whiteners, stain remover, fabric softener, and dryer sheets, it was a lot!
We’ve since reduced the harmful chemicals in our laundry significantly.
One of the biggest hurdles for me was dryer sheets. I hate static filled clothes. And although I was constantly looking for an alternative to traditional dryer sheets, I couldn’t find one that seemed to work…so I wouldn’t stop using them. Finally when we moved, we went cold turkey. I decided we weren’t moving with the package and I would just have to find an alternative, ready or not.
At first I just did the wash without since we live about 120 miles from any store that would offer alternatives. I assumed I would solve the problem when we headed into the city. But something happened a few weeks in, I realized my clothes [and satisfaction] survived the dryer just fine without anything added.
Today I’m not sharing a homemade tactic, but rather I am trying to convince you to forego dryer sheets. They are filled with chemicals, their scent is unbearably strong, and they are expensive. I challenge you to give it a try this week as you’re doing your wash. You’ll be surprised!
Does anyone else skip the dryer sheets or use a safer alternative to store bought sheets?
