5 Reasons I Love my Reel Mower

We finally bought our first lawn mower. Check out this beauty!

Reel Mower

That’s right, we went back to basics for this household tool. A lot of time was spent debating the best option for us. We landed on this one for a few reasons:

  1. It aligns with our goal. We want to be completely self-sufficient one day. We can’t do that if we need to be buying gas for our lawn mower every month.
  2. It’s efficient. The blades are sharp, and it does a nice job on our less than level backyard, and the only thing I have to do to get it started is pull it out of the shed.
  3. It’s easy to use. I don’t need to add gas, I don’t need to plug it in, and I only need to push to get the job done. And for those looking- no the grass in that picture up there has not been cut recently.
  4. I feel safer. Here’s a little confession, lawn mowers with a motor scare me. This little thing doesn’t. I can push it with one arm and I don’t fear for the safety of my toes.
  5. It’s affordable. When comparing all of our options, not only was this the one that met our needs, it was the most cost effective. It had the lowest purchase price and the lowest maintenance price.

Good for you! We don’t have to mow our lawn yet (our apt complex takes care of it for us), but we’re considering a simpler piece of equipment such as this one when the time comes. I always think it’s such a waste with all the technology people use: gas mowers, electric weedwackers, leaf blowers, agh! It’s too much & too complicated! I like your more simple, basic solution. Plus you get some exercise by walking and aren’t polluting! Gotta love it!

We use the one abandoned by our former landlords: still works beautifully (especially after I adjusted the blades to it was actually cutting rather than flattening the grass!). CelloDad gets nice exercise pushing it around our yard; he has looked into a power mower, but came to the conclusion that the quality of the new crop of mowers is terrible, so he’s sticking with the hand mower. Father mows best!

Haha love the puns! Way to use one of the many great things pushed aside by someone else!
